Smart City solutions in focus

In cooperation with the Zala County Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZVKIK) and the Embassy of Hungary in Ljubljana, the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) organised another business study tour to Slovenia — to Lendava and Ljubljana — between 14–15 May 2025, as a continuation of the successful Hungarian–Slovenian Smart City business forum launched in 2024. The aim of the programme was to support the international networking of Hungarian companies and to gain insight into the latest smart city and industrial innovations.

The 15-member delegation consisted of representatives from seven Hungarian companies, mainly active in digital and smart solutions. The professional programme was implemented with the active involvement of our diplomatic representation in Ljubljana.

During the visit, participants were introduced to the robotics developments of the Daihen Varstroj company in Lendava, as well as the BTC City complex in Ljubljana — one of Europe’s largest and most innovative smart urban districts. The development concept includes smart transport systems, logistics and IT solutions, as well as a planned smart residential area — a project that could also serve as a model for Budapest’s “Parkváros” urban development programme.

The delegation was welcomed by several high-level Slovenian and Hungarian representatives, including Andor Ferenc Dávid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Damjan Kralj, CEO of BTC, and Marjana Majerič, Executive Director for Strategic and International Affairs at the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

BKIK

Throughout the programme, Slovenian companies developing fintech, robotics, automated mobility and digital technologies — including NAKA, Lab4Pay, AV Living Lab, OriginTrail and Technology Park Ljubljana — presented their innovations. Hungarian businesses had the opportunity to introduce themselves and to build direct business connections through targeted B2B meetings.

Among both parties, the idea emerged that the next — and third — Hungarian–Slovenian Smart City meeting could take place in Budapest in autumn 2025. BKIK and ZVKIK will continue to play an active role in encouraging the international expansion of Hungarian SMEs and deepening cross-border business cooperation.
