The presentation of China’s high-tech industry in Budapest, offering outstanding business opportunities for Hungarian companies

On 30–31 October 2025, the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) played an active role in organizing the Budapest stop of the Shanghai Fair Trade Show at the Hungexpo venue. The event forms part of one of the world’s largest industrial exhibition series, implemented with the support of the Chinese state.

At the exhibition, which attracted several thousand visitors, around 130 Chinese high-tech companies presented their developments in industrial digitalisation, robotics, automation, energy, green technologies, medical-technology devices and household electronics. The focus of the expo was to expand business opportunities for Hungarian enterprises, supported by business-matching meetings provided by the organisers, specialist interpretation, and personalised meeting arrangements.

International and domestic speakers — including Katalin Bihari, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and President of HEPA — also emphasised that the timing is particularly favourable for Hungarian companies to enter Chinese high-tech markets.

For BKIK, the event represented a strategic milestone in the development of Hungarian–Chinese economic relations. At the opening ceremony of the expo, Dr József Sztranyák, Vice-Chair of BKIK’s International and Foreign Trade College, delivered a welcome speech, introduced the chamber’s services, and signed a cooperation agreement with its Shanghai partner, the Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics, thereby elevating the professional relationship between the two organisations to a new level.

The chamber also held bilateral discussions with the leadership of the partner institution, focusing on facilitating cooperation and strengthening innovation partnerships.

BKIK’s participation aimed to ensure that Hungarian companies could take part in this prestigious international industrial showcase with priority support, and to establish cooperation channels that will strengthen the relationship between Budapest and the Shanghai economic ecosystem in the long term.

The results of the Budapest exhibition confirmed that the Hungarian appearance of the Shanghai exhibition series represents not only an advancement in technological knowledge transfer, but may also open a new path of development for Hungarian industrial enterprises to join international value chains.
